Professor of Otolaryngology and Director of the ENT Clinic at the P.G.N.I., Georgios Psychogios<\/strong>, has long-standing experience in the use of ultrasound for the diagnosis and monitoring of diseases of the neck and cervical lymph nodes.<\/strong>He has dealt extensively with the application of ultrasound as a tool in the daily clinical practice of ENT and in better surgical preparation.<\/p>\n

The cervical lymph nodes<\/strong> are usually located superficially and can be examined in detail and reliably with the help of ultrasound.<\/p>\n

The ultrasound<\/strong> is very important in the diagnosis of most cervical diseases, such as thyroglossal duct cysts<\/strong>, lateral cervical cysts<\/strong> (branchial cysts), laryngoceles<\/strong>, lipomas<\/strong>, mesenchymal tumors<\/strong> tumors,<\/strong> carotid body paraganglioma<\/strong>, cervical nerve neurinomas<\/strong> and of course benign and malignant enlargements of the cervical lymph nodes<\/strong> (cervical lymph node metastases).<\/p>\n

Beyond diagnosis, ultrasound is essential for performing ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration (FNA<\/span><\/strong>) for cytological examination or core needle biopsy( CNB )<\/span><\/strong>for pathological examination and a more reliable result (important in cases of lymphomas where FNAs are not sufficient). FNA<\/span> \u03b4\u03b5\u03bd \u03b5\u03af\u03bd\u03b1\u03b9 \u03b5\u03c0\u03b1\u03c1\u03ba\u03ae\u03c2)<\/p>\n

The Elastography<\/strong> is an ultrasound technique that allows the measurement of the elasticity<\/strong> and hardness of tissues.<\/strong>Elastography exploits the fact that malignant tissues are harder than benign or normal ones, as a result of which it can give us very important information about the risk of a neoplasm<\/strong>. <\/span>Especially in cases of cervical lymph node metastases from squamous cell carcinomas of the larynx or pharynx<\/strong>, <\/span>elastography is very reliable and important. Professor Psychogios has extensive clinical experience<\/strong> and research involvement<\/strong> in the subject. In addition, he has a state-of-the-art ultrasound scanner with 4th<\/sup> generation Virtual<\/span> Touch<\/span> Tissue<\/span> imaging<\/span> Quantification<\/span> Shear<\/span> Wave<\/span> Elastography<\/span>. (VTIQ<\/span>).<\/strong><\/p>\n

Preoperative<\/strong>, intraoperative<\/strong> and postoperative<\/strong> monitoring: Preoperative localization of the exact location of a cervical lymph node or mass by ultrasound contributes significantly to the selection of the appropriate surgical technique, the reduction of complications and the reduction of surgical time. Postoperatively, the use of ultrasound significantly helps in the diagnosis of possible hematoma or inflammation.<\/p>\n

Research work:<\/strong> The doctor has significant research work in both ultrasound and surgery of all cervical diseases, which began during his residency at the ENT clinic of the University Hospital of Erlangen<\/span> Germany, which is one of the largest clinics in Germany and Europe.<\/p>\n
